Why did we do it?

I created these products because I was tired of paying premium prices for moisturizers that were full of chemical and artificial ingredients that irritated my skin and were basically a "quick fix" that only kept moisture in my skin while I was wearing them. Once I washed them off, my skin wasn't any healthier than it was before.

I wanted something that would help to improve my skin and maybe reduce the wrinkles a bit.

I spent two years in American Samoa conducting my field work, and learned there that Samoan and other Polynesian women have used coconut oil to heal, moisturize and condition their skin since time immemorial. I had been using coconut oil with very good results. Then winter came, with dry air, the heat coming on, wind, snow and all those winter things that make your skin look ten years older. Coconut oil just wasn't enough.

I started mixing natural -- and organic, when I can get it -- ingredients that are proven to help condition and improve the skin while helping to maintain the skin's natural moisture.

There are now several products in the Tulameen Naturals line: moisturizer, lotion, hair conditioner (this is especially good for coarse, dry hair), and lip balm.
